Couples therapy

Couples therapy is a type of therapy that focuses on building and maintaining a strong and healthy relationship.

Common issues raised in the couples therapy space may be related to poor communication, poor conflict resolution, infidelity, sex, substance use, in-laws, management of finances, and emotional distance. Other couples may also use therapy as a way to increase positive communication skills, deepen communication, and further strengthen their relationships.

When differences are explored in a safe and trusting environment, there is limited friction and more understanding and harmony, which can result in a more gratifying relationship.

What to expect

Initially, I will assess the couple- this will take up at least the first session. A thorough assessment of the good and the bad, the past, the present and the future will help me to understand the relationship dynamics.

The therapy itself will begin with identifying and understanding what the barriers to a happy and healthy relationship are. Shared treatment goals will be created and will help me to form a treatment plan.

Whatever concerns you may have as a couple, I can assist you in improving your process of communication. I encourage couples to state their thoughts, feelings, and desires to each other in a clear and compassionate manner. Couples can learn to demonstrate to their partners that they understand and empathise with each other’s points of view. When partners improve their communication, they may find that their connection with each other deepens and strengthens. Therapy can help couples become more skilled at resolving disagreements, solving problems, cooperating more effectively, and experiencing greater fulfilment in their relationship.
